I was hired to create a company logo for a new golf apparel company called ForeDogs. The aim of the company is to provide fashionable golf apparel while contributing a percentage of profits to dog charities.
The company also was without a brand identity, so whichever direction we ultimately took the logo in, would heavily influence its brand identity. I decided to incorporate some web design mocks featuring some color and typography variations into my process in order to help validate the logo’s vision.
A lot of my initial work was sketching different breeds of dogs (using an iPad / Procreate) until I landed on a few directions that felt strong. Through feedback sessions with my client I was able to get validation in the direction we ultimately used featuring a black lab (right, above).
Vectorizing the Procreate illustration was the part of this project that I had the most fun doing. It’s uniquely challenging to translate a raster illustration into something vector (and in this case, actually fit with the type vision I was going for). I used Adobe Illustrator’s pen tool to achieve the exact line work.
